Jute filigree involves the creation of light and elegant crafts from twine or thick thread

Working with natural thread is so pleasant that it immediately attracts young and beginner needlewomen. Simple tricks and a simple algorithm of actions allow you to quickly master this magnificent old technique.

Before starting the creative process, you need to stock up on simple and affordable materials:

  • twine or any thick thread;
  • transparent glue "Moment" or "Titanium";
  • PVA glue for processing;
  • scissors;
  • tweezers;
  • acrylic paints or acrylic varnish.

Stencils serve as the basis for filigree work. They can be drawn, relying on your own imagination or printed from the Internet. The sketch should be drawn with clear black lines on A4 white paper and placed in a transparent file.

The oilcloth will serve as the basis on which all the details will be glued. After processing and drying, the openwork craft is easily separated from the oilcloth base.

To make a simple jute napkin, you need to draw two patterns: a circle with a diameter of 5-6 cm and the outlines of a future craft.

Work begins with the twisting of the "snail". A small loop is created and new circles are wrapped around it. A small amount of glue is squeezed onto the template, and the folded circle is placed on the file.

Important! To complete the work, the jute thread is always cut obliquely with scissors.

The tip is carefully glued and merges with the common workpiece.

The next step is the manufacture of an openwork base. Glue is applied along all the contours of the template and threads of the desired length are placed. It is convenient to work with narrow tweezers or fingers. To keep your hands clean, it is advisable to use wet wipes!

When all the threads along the outer and inner contours are glued, you can proceed to the manufacture of fastening "snails".

These small circles of thread folded in a circle will connect the openwork details of the napkin. The finished craft should be carefully smeared with a solution of PVA glue with water (1 to 1).

After the blanks have completely dried, they must be separated from the file and glued together.

If desired, the needlewoman can paint the napkin with acrylic paints. Gold or silver colors are ideal.

There are a lot of patterns for making openwork napkins and coasters. The main thing is to approach the creative process with soul and indefatigable imagination.

Jute twine filigree: a master class and lessons from the masters of making an openwork vase

The art of jute filigree attracts not only young needlewomen, but also young guys with a creative streak. A master class on making an elegant twine dish is presented by a novice master from the Belgorod region Vladislav Trush.

For work, he uses a glass base vase and cling film, on which he will apply elegant openwork patterns.

The base dish is covered with a transparent film, in the center it is abundantly smeared with glue, and the laying of the thread begins with a traditional snail. For convenience, the master holds the workpiece with sharp scissors and cuts off the oblique ends with them.

The next step is the formation of "droplets" around the central circle. The master cuts 10-12 threads of the same length from the ball and puts neat petals on the glue.

In the same way, internal droplets are laid out in a circle, and the pattern is more saturated and rich.

To fix the structure around the entire circumference of the workpiece, 3-4 rows of jute thread are planted on the glue.

The next stage of work is the formation of the second circle of petals. The master decided that they would have an inclined broken shape and consist of 3 decreasing droplets.

In the empty spaces between the curls, the young craftsman places small snails, which will have a fastening and decorative function.

The master carefully coats the finished work with PVA glue diluted in water. Allows it to dry completely, gently peels off cling film and excess glue, and then decorates with golden acrylic paint.

An elegant vase for strawberries is ready! A young novice master can make a great gift for March 8 for his mother or for his girlfriend with his own hands.

Craftswomen use glass pebbles, rhinestones and twine thread of different colors in their work.

To make a napkin holder in the form of a chestnut leaf, you will need hanks of gray-green and emerald shades, as well as brown pebbles for the legs and the central “nut”.

The inner veins of the leaf are made with a gray-green thread, and the contours are beautifully decorated with bright emerald twine.

On a note! Jute of any color is available for sale, but the master can always change the shade of the thread to his liking. To do this, it is desirable to paint it before starting work, completely dipping it in high-quality acrylic paint.

All leaves of the back wall of the napkin holder are made in the same way, at the base they are fastened in circles on both sides of the workpiece.

The next step is to make the front wall of the napkin holder. The detail is made according to a small scheme with the placement of a central stone on a round base.

To connect the walls of the napkin holder, you need a reliable base. They serve as a wooden blank of 4 sticks, wrapped in jute thread.

Prepared stencils are glued onto the base cardboard box, and all sides are covered with a protective film.

With the help of liquid glue, beautiful curls, circles and contour entanglements are fixed. When all the blanks are dry, they can be separated from the base and, if desired, painted with acrylic paint.

The bottom of the box is formed by laying the thread on the sides of the square. The twine is immediately placed on the glue, wrapped in one direction until the entire space from the corners to the center is filled.

For beauty and density, the bottom can be reinforced with circles and connecting rays.

Feather of the Firebird: a talisman for happiness from jute thread

Skillful home needlewomen are real dreamers and inventors. From ordinary twine, they can make beautiful talismans for happiness and good luck.

A simple example is the feather of the Firebird. It will take a small skein of twine, a little transparent glue and a couple of beautiful pebbles to create it.

First, as always, you need to make a sketch and place it in a transparent file. Apply glue along the contour of the pattern with a thin stream and carefully lay the jute thread, cutting off the oblique ends.

To place a glass pebble in the center of the pen, it is necessary to make a base for it - a round snail from a working thread.

It is advisable to additionally lubricate the ends of a natural thread with glue, then they will not be frayed and will neatly hide in the work.

Those bends in the picture that will be decorated with rhinestones need to be reinforced with 2-3 strips of jute.

The finished work must be carefully smeared with diluted PVA glue and set aside for 1-2 hours.

On a note! When the craft is completely dry, it must be separated from the base, remove excess glue with a hot soldering iron, a heated screwdriver, or simply cut with scissors.

Dish or tray in jute filigree technique: master class (video)

Galina

after the product is ready, how can I remove the glue so that it is neat?

Galina

Can you tell me how to remove the glue residue from the product?

I am sure that this MK will not be popular enough, the technique is outlandish for many :). Despite this, I still decided to post it. My napkins are scattered around my friends like hot cakes, maybe this option will fit someone ... I didn’t specifically make any complex combinations of knots, I used only the three most popular ones. Those who are familiar with the technique will immediately understand that the work is not difficult.

The diameter of the napkin without fringe is 39 cm, with fringe all 60 cm.

A little bigger...

For work, I needed: a small pillow on which I wove; needles; scissors: jute twine (2 skeins of 300 grams, diameter = 1.25, length - 240 meters)
I described the twine in detail, since with a different twine the result will be different.
The photos are different, as I worked at different times of the day and naturally with different lighting.

I'll tell you more about the beginning...
I fix two strands of twine 3 meters long on a pillow in the middle.

Another thread 3 meters.

on two threads weave a double flat knot.
Weaving schemes for all three knots are at the end of the MK.

A do-it-yourself jute napkin holder will not leave anyone indifferent, because it is an elegant little thing that fits perfectly into any interior. Learn how to make a jute napkin holder and see step by step photos.

Do-it-yourself jute napkin holder master class

This is a massive job. A jute twine napkin holder consists of three parts: a base and two sides glued together.

In order to make a jute napkin holder, you will need:

  • jute twine;
  • wooden skewers;
  • glass inserts-marbles (6 pieces);
  • glue;
  • tweezers;
  • scissors;
  • stationery knife.

We make a drawing of the base of the napkin holder: a rectangle 14 cm long and 2 cm wide.

Inside we place an ornament of 4 curls and loops.

Side: bottom side length 14 cm, height 7 cm.

We draw a semicircle with a compass. Place a drawing inside.

We place the sheet with the picture in the file folder. We start from the foundation. We coat a piece of jute with glue and glue it according to the drawing of a straight line of the base.

Then we make large curls on the sides and in the center. We supplement with smaller elements.

The next step in the step-by-step production of a filigree jute napkin holder is the assembly of the sides.

First, prepare the glass inserts. We make castes around marbles from jute. Adjacent elements will be glued to the cast, and the insert will sit firmly inside the ornament. To do this, we coat the insert with glue around along the side line and tightly wrap it around with two turns of jute twine. We leave to dry.

We lay a straight piece of jute according to the drawing at the base under the ornament of the side.

Glue the top glass insert to the intended place. It should stick well to the central curls.

We decorate the place around the insert with curls and eyelets. First the big ones, then the smaller ones.

Glue the side inserts in the marked places. We connect them with smooth lines with the central part of the ornament.

The twine should tightly and firmly fasten the insert to adjacent elements. We add small details according to the drawing.

For greater relief of the pattern, in some places one more row of jute cord can be glued on top. While one side of the napkin holder dries, we do the second in the same way.

Remove the dried base of the napkin holder from the surface of the film. We cut off the streaks of glue from the wrong side with a clerical knife. We do this work very carefully. Then, after drying, we proceed to strip the glue from both sides of the napkin holder.

Glue borders of skewers to the sides from below. This is necessary for greater structural rigidity. To make a border, we take a skewer, glue its surface and wrap it around with dense coils of jute twine.

We measure 14 cm and glue. Then glue both sides of the napkin holder to the base. You can leave the napkin holder in this form, or you can make small legs for it to lift above the table surface. Let's make them in the form of small triangles.

The process is exactly the same. First, we glue the contours, and then we fill the inside with jute elements. Let dry, remove glue and glue to the base. The napkin holder is ready. It will definitely decorate the table!

With the help of jute filigree, you can create beautiful patterned crafts, lampshades, panels, boxes and more, while they look so unusual and elegant that it is impossible to look away!
The most pleasant thing about this relatively new type of needlework is that jute filigree does not require any special expensive devices and materials, all of which are available to anyone.
The main material is jute cord. Agree, it is not difficult to buy a reel. And if the idea involves working in color, then it can be painted in a variety of colors with acrylic paints. In addition, you will also need tweezers, a thin knitting needle, transparent Titanium glue, although regular PVA, an awl and scissors will do. Well, if you are a beginner, then you will need stencils of patterns. They can be made by hand or purchased at any of the needlework stores.
In order to start working in this technique, you first need to decide on the pattern. Let these be the most uncomplicated drawings, but clearly drawn. To do this, you can make a sketch yourself or use a ready-made one. Next, this drawing must be placed in a transparent plastic file.
Along the entire contour of the sketch, you need to carefully apply glue, and lay a jute cord on top. Many craftsmen apply glue not to the sketch, but directly to the jute, which is carefully twisted with tweezers and placed on the adhesive base. With a thin knitting needle, the thread is straightened according to the pattern. In this way, you can work on the entire field.

After filling in the sketch, the work needs to be dried. To do this, it can be placed under a press and left to dry for about 6 hours. After that, using a knife, carefully separate the future product from the base and varnish it.
The finished work may consist of several parts, which are then combined into one whole. Also, jute filigree can be supplemented with other decorative elements: beads, rhinestones and many others, all this is also attached to the sketch with glue.
