New Year's wreath - an original decoration on the eve of the winter holidays

A wreath is a symbol of the winter holidays

If you want to give your home a festive atmosphere that will envelop you right from the doorstep, there is nothing better than attaching a Christmas New Year wreath to the door. This decor has long been considered a symbol of the winter holidays. It symbolizes infinity, prosperity and anticipation of the birth of Christ.

Handmade door wreaths have special energy. Such New Year's decor also characterizes the character and home habits of its owners. It manages to put a powerful positive charge of emotions into it.

To decorate a door with such a handmade product, you can use a wide variety of materials. As a basis, you need to make a ring of cardboard, hose, wire, rods, etc.

Please note: the size and weight of the wreath must correspond to the method of attachment. Think about this point in advance.

Branches and cones

Traditionally, the wreath on the door contains spruce branches. Making this option with your own hands is quite possible. To do this you will need prepared branches, wire and additional decor.

Traditional pine needle wreath

  1. First, let's make the base. For example, cut out a cardboard ring with an outline width of approximately 10 cm.
  2. We begin to form our Christmas wreath. To do this, use wire to secure individual branches in such a way as to completely cover the base. Additionally, use hot melt glue or “Moment”.
  3. Next, you need to secure the decorations on top of the green branches. For example, use pine cones, small Christmas tree decorations, bows. It is most convenient to fix them using the same wire. You can tie a decorative ribbon around the wreath or weave an electric garland with small light bulbs into it.
  4. Sprinkle the product with artificial snow, glitter or gold paint on top.
  5. An alternative could be a New Year's wreath made of dry twigs. It looks no less impressive than its evergreen variation. To make it yourself, you don’t even need to use a base.
  6. Take an armful of twigs and twist them so that, intertwining, the branches form an even circle. Fasten them together.
  7. Secure cones, rose hips, juniper berries, etc. between the sticks using wire.
  8. You can use physalis inflorescences and other dried flowers. The most spectacular are lunaria, immortelle, panicum, eryngium, sedum and similar plants.
  9. Additionally, you can spray the wreath with paint, such as silver or gold.

Products as a way of decoration

A Christmas wreath can also consist of food products. The main condition for this method of decoration is that all elements must be processed so as not to deteriorate. Dried rings of oranges, lemons, various dried fruits, nuts, beans, spices, etc. are used to model the product.

Citrus New Year's resolution for door wreath

How to make a wreath with your own hands:

  1. Prepare the base. You can use rolled up newspaper as this.
  2. Cover the circle with cloth, colored paper or twigs.
  3. Start decorating. The easiest way to secure the products is with a glue gun. Use dried citrus fruits, colorful beans, oddly shaped pasta, star anise and cinnamon sticks, walnuts or peanuts in shells.
  4. Paint individual parts.

A huge plus of such a wreath is that as soon as you open the apartment door, you will immediately be enveloped in a pleasant aroma of citrus and spices. This New Year's decor brings double benefits, being a natural air freshener. After the winter festivities are over, it can be used as a decoration for furniture or placed in the linen closet.

Textile

How else can you make a New Year's wreath for the door with your own hands? Use fabric for this. For example, make a New Year's wreath from scraps and old clothes. There are an incredible number of modeling methods. You can sew strands from the scraps, stuff them with synthetic padding and braid them like braids in a circle. You can follow the patchwork technique and attach small pieces of different materials to the base. Additionally, use threads and decorative cords. The same effect can be achieved using ribbons. A wreath made entirely of bows looks very festive.

Original wreath made of tulle and paper snowflakes

Try to make an unusual and bright Christmas wreath with your own hands using tulle and mesh:

  1. Make a base from fabric and soft filling.
  2. Cut the mesh of different hardness and color into small squares.
  3. Using a needle and thread, grab the center of the square and lightly gather the fabric.
  4. Sew the piece to the base and work around the entire circumference of the hoop in this way.
  5. Decorate the product with beads on a wire.

Paper and foil

A New Year's wreath can be made from the simplest materials at hand: paper and foil. A huge advantage of such a product, in addition to the ease of work, is the fact that it can be hung on the door even with the help of tape, because the wreath is very light. You can cut out snowflakes from paper and stick them in a circle on the base. Or roll the colored pieces into a cone and form an unusual composition. The now popular quilling technique comes in handy here. You can even use bows to decorate gifts.

Flowers and sweets

You can construct a New Year's wreath with your own hands from ordinary candies. To dilute sweet gifts, use flowers. These can be dried flowers, evergreens, flowers made from fabric, candy wrappers, etc. An excellent option is inflorescences dried in semolina, harvested from the summer, or red poinsettia leaves.

You can decorate the wreath with pine cones, limes, apples

How to make a sweet Christmas wreath on the door with your own hands:

  1. Decorate the base;
  2. First you need to attach the candies with glue, wire or thread.
  3. Complete the composition with floral inserts.

Mounting methods

Do-it-yourself New Year's decor must be installed in its proper place. How to attach a Christmas wreath to a door? There are several ways. If the product is quite light, you can try gluing it with tape or placing it on double-sided adhesive tape. Another option is to use a thread to hook it onto the peephole. In any case, such methods are not very reliable.

A wreath on a wooden door can be hooked onto a small nail and secured with tape

How to attach a New Year's wreath to a wooden door? If you don’t mind the covering, you can nail a decorative nail and hang the decor on it. The ideal case is if the canvas is covered with soft upholstery with furniture nails. It is enough to just stick out the nail a little - and the job is done.

But how to hang a Christmas New Year wreath on an iron door? In this case, perhaps the only way out will be a hook with Velcro, like those that catch in the bathroom, or with a suction cup. The first option is much more reliable, but it may leave traces and will have to be washed.

Look around, maybe you have something on hand that you can use to make a beautiful Christmas wreath with your own hands. Feel free to get down to business and don't be afraid to experiment.

In recent years, such a craft as a wreath of pine cones for the New Year has become very popular. The history of Christmas wreaths

The tradition of decorating a house for Christmas and New Year with coniferous wreaths came to us from Europe. A Christian master makes a wreath of pine cones for the New Year from fir branches, complemented by 4 candles arranged crosswise. As you know, Christmas is preceded by Advent - a 24-day fast, and on each Sunday of this fast it was customary to light one candle on a wreath.

Several centuries ago, there lived in Europe a Lutheran theologian, Johann Wichern. To help the families of those in need, he took their children into his care. When the Nativity fast came, the impatient children constantly asked their mentor, when will the long-awaited Christmas come? Then he came up with the idea of making a floral wreath by inserting 24 candles into it. He used a wheel as a frame and inserted 20 small red and large white candles into the decoration. Every day he lit one red candle, and on Sunday - a white one. Then, as usual, the wreath was modernized (4 candles remained) and acquired a symbolic meaning among believers - pine branches began to symbolize the Earth, teeming with life, and 4 candles personified the universe.

Which cones to choose for a New Year's wreath?

Looking at the photo of New Year's wreaths made of cones, you can understand that there can be a variety of cones: spruce and pine, cedar and larch - all of them are so beautiful, as if created by nature for artistic use. With this environmentally friendly natural material, you just need to apply a little creativity to create unique decorations for the winter holiday. Moreover, you don’t need to buy this chic craft material, but combine business with pleasure - collecting pine cones in a park or forest with a wonderful walk.

If there are cones in the forest, then there are a lot of them, so when collecting them you need to choose the most beautiful ones or those with an unusual shape, which can also be useful. In addition to cones, you will also need to collect coniferous branches.

One thing to keep in mind is that spruce needles will shed faster than longer pine needles, which will last longer.

If you find only closed cones, don’t be upset. Place them on a warm radiator overnight, and by morning they will open like flowers on a summer morning.

What should you do with the pine cones?

The instructions on how to make a New Year's wreath from cones indicate that the collected material requires simple preparation - all the cones need to be washed in water, removing dirt particles from them, and then dried thoroughly.

Cones prepared in this way can be used in their natural form - with natural colors, or they can be painted, especially since they are easy to paint.

The cone can be tied by a thread and completely immersed in paint of the desired color, or you can paint the cone manually with a brush.

You can use spray paints.

If you paint them before making a New Year's wreath from pine cones, you will get this beauty:

Lightening buds

To lighten a bump, you need:

  • Place it in a container of household bleach for 5 hours.
  • Afterwards, rinse it in plenty of water and dry it completely (you can put them in the oven at a low temperature to speed up the process).

Covering the pine cones with glitter

Gold-plated, silver-plated or glitter-covered cones look gorgeous. To do this you will need a brush and PVA glue.

  • Apply glue with a brush to the “petals” of the cone and immediately sprinkle with glitter.
  • You can sprinkle only the tips of the cones, or you can sprinkle the entire surface.
  • Wait until the glue dries a little, and only then peel off the unadhered glitter onto the paper to reuse it.

Cone aroma

For those who feel that a New Year's wreath made of pine cones does not emit a bright enough aroma, you can treat them with cinnamon, sandalwood, or, in general, any flavoring that suits your taste.

Sometimes the pine cone is difficult to attach or glue to the base. Then at the bottom of the cone you can use pliers or another handy tool to remove several scales to create a flat base with which it will be much easier to fix it.

  3. The cones can be decorated by painting them in a bright color, such as gold.
  4. Glue small plastic rings to the cones, with which you string them on the warp wire, evenly distributing them around the entire perimeter of the wreath.
  5. Having filled the entire perimeter with cones, the wire must be twisted again.
  6. Decorate the upper part of the wreath with a beautiful accessory that covers the wire hook, for example, with a lush red bow.
  7. Using the remaining hook, the wreath can be hung on a door or wall.

  1. Place the flattened cardboard on the table.
  2. If there is no compass in the house, then take 2 pot lids of different sizes and circle them with a pencil or 2 plates of different sizes.

  1. Then, with a clerical knife or scissors, cut out the cardboard ring along the outlined contours.

  1. Attach a piece of lush tinsel of your preferred color to it with a stapler.
  2. Then you need to attach balls and cones to the workpiece - they are attached with a thermal gun closer to the inside of the ring. Although you can use any balls, it is more convenient to work with plastic ones.

  1. The wreath can also be decorated with figurines of Santa Claus, Snow Maiden, small plastic figurines of animals.
  2. To make the wreath even more festive and bright, the surface of the balls can be treated with glue and sprinkled with sequins manually or from a spray bottle.
  3. At the end, the wreath can be twined with a beautiful satin ribbon, after which the New Year's decoration will only have to be placed in its intended place.

Christmas wreath with fir cones

  5. Decorate the resulting wreath to your taste; you can cover it with varnish or paint, although natural shades will look chic.

New Year's wreath based on newspapers

In this version, newspaper or magazine paper is used to make the base of the wreath.

Try to keep the thickness of this ring the same in different places.

  1. Using a glue gun, cover the entire ring with a paper towel.

  1. Cut a 1.5-meter strip 15 cm wide from organza. Wrap the base with this tape and fix its ends with a glue gun.
  2. After this, wrap the frame with green rain imitating spruce branches.

  1. Attach larger specimens of cones with a glue gun in the center of the base, and smaller ones will fit for the edges.

You should not try to glue the cones tightly, since other decorations can be placed in the gaps between them: Christmas tree decorations, beads, cinnamon sticks, ribbons, and complete the decoration with a large beautiful bow.

The history of the Advent wreath

The tradition of decorating entrance doors or a holiday table with a Christmas wreath is slowly taking root in countries that historically profess Orthodoxy. However, the meaning of this symbol must be correctly understood.
Many consider a wreath, like a decorated Christmas tree, to be an indispensable attribute of the New Year. Although this is not entirely true. The tradition of decorating a house with a circle of fir branches with candles came to us from Western countries, where the Nativity of Christ, which falls on December 25, is celebrated on a large scale.
The first Christmas wreath for his little pupils was made by a Lutheran theologian from Hamburg, Johann Wichern. The children were so looking forward to the holiday that they constantly asked if Christmas had already come. It was then that the symbol denoting Advent (the period of fasting, waiting and preparation for the Nativity of Christ) was born - the Advent wreath.

Wichern's wreath was a circle of spruce branches mounted on a wooden wheel, with 24 small and 4 large candles inserted into them. Every day the children lit one candle (large candles were lit on Sundays) and thus could count how many days were left until the holiday.
The idea of decorating a house with a Christmas wreath was so popular among Western Christians that it quickly spread and took root.
Today, Christmas has transformed from a religious one into a beautiful family holiday, the rules of which are no longer so strict.
A Christmas wreath can be without candles, decorated with Christmas tree decorations, ribbons, bells, fir cones, and beads. And you can place it not only on a horizontal surface, but also on the front door or walls.
Some will say that the Advent wreath is a tradition alien to Orthodoxy, however, even in Orthodox churches, icons for the holiday are decorated with elegant spruce compositions. All religions and earthly cultures are intertwined, flowing from one to another.
So why not start a tradition of making a beautiful Christmas wreath in your family for the holiday? This is what we will do today!

Preparation of materials

The uniqueness of making a Christmas wreath with your own hands is that the modern design of premises for the holidays consists of selecting a specific color scheme, so you can choose elements that will harmoniously combine with your wishes.
I chose the color scheme red and gold. Decorative elements - red bows, beads, ribbon, bells, gold cones, a deer figurine, a small bell, balls, pendant, artificial green spruce branches.

The choice of decorative elements is now very diverse, both in color and in figures. You can use souvenirs and parts of Christmas tree decorations that have become unusable.

Progress

From a regular cardboard box you need to cut a circle with a stationery knife. The diameter of the outer circle of our wreath is 35 cm. Of course, you can choose the size to suit your wishes, make it larger or smaller.

The result was a cardboard rim - the basis for the wreath.
Next, you need to wrap this headband with tinsel of the required color. For a base of this size, 4 ribbons of tinsel, each 1 meter long, were required. We secure the ends of the tinsel with a stapler.

Next, we wrap a decorative red ribbon around the entire rim. You can use satin, but in my work I use gift wrapping. We also secure the tip with a stapler.

We connect the two ends of the tape with transparent tape.

In the spaces between the ribbon we place a gold-colored Christmas tree pendant, which represents snowflakes connected to each other. Place the ends with hot glue.

Next, glue the decorative elements with a glue gun - first, artificial Christmas tree branches.

Next, on the right side we place a red bow, gold leaves, a small gold gift and cones. At this stage you can show your imagination, creativity and creative approach.

On the left side there are golden branches.

We glue a gold-colored reindeer, which has become a symbol of the New Year, and small bells.

And in the center of the wreath we staple two red bells - Christmas tree decorations. You can place a Christmas star, angel, snowflakes.

You will also need some tape for this work. Use a medium length skein.

Technique for creating an accessory:

  1. Wrap the workpiece in bright paper or tinsel. We suggest using braid.
  2. Glue the candies. Try to glue so that there are no gaps between the layers.
  3. Decorate to your taste. Don't forget to decorate the finished decor item. Regular New Year's tinsel, which can be found in any apartment, will do.

Children will especially like the resulting accessory. If you don’t have children, but your neighbors in the stairwell do, why not pamper them with a candy wreath. You should carefully attach a small note to the wreath offering a treat.

A Christmas wreath made of birch branches looks unusual. In general, this accessory can be dedicated to absolutely any holiday.

The fact is that we tell you how to make the blank itself with your own hands. What you will use for decoration - beads / beads / candies / pasta - depends solely on your imagination. We can also offer a ready-made base decor option just in New Year's style.

What else will you need to create a holiday decoration:

  • wire;
  • birch branches;
  • a small yellow Christmas tree garland;
  • orange decorative vine;
  • orange Christmas tree balls;
  • transparent pendants "Lyrisk";
  • organza ribbon with a pattern;
  • thin organza ribbon;

The technique presented to your attention, creating a Christmas decoration for the exterior, is distinguished by its complexity. The finished accessory looks more elegant and unusual than a decor item made from candies or beads. Now or in the future, the wreath can be used not only for decoration, but also for arranging the photo shoot area.

Creation technique:

  1. Make a ring from birch branches. To ensure that the ring takes the correct shape, secure it with wire.

A wreath made of birch twigs will bring a real atmosphere of miracle to your home. It looks especially unusual if you attach it above the dining table. You will need thread and a little patience. Create the illusion that the decoration is literally floating above the table. Both children and adults will be impressed by what they see.

How to make a New Year's wreath from tinsel

The easiest way to make a New Year's decoration is to use a variety of tinsel, which can be found in any home. Carefully inspect the boxes of Christmas tree decorations for anything out of place. Perhaps some toy or tinsel no longer looks very good, which is why you don’t want to attach them to the tree. They will definitely come in handy for a wreath. If there are no such toys, choose something that can be attached to the workpiece without worrying about safety. It is especially important to do this if you plan to hang a wreath in the entrance.

  • thick wire;
  • wrapping paper or craft;
  • scotch;
  • green paint;
  • tinsel (3 pieces, 2 m each);
  • glue gun;
  • Christmas tree beads;
  • cones;
  • gold powder;
  • wrapping;
  • preparations for gifts;
  • golden ribbon.

Step-by-step creation of an accessory:

  • make a preparation. For a Christmas tinsel wreath you need a blank. You can do it yourself. We will tell you step by step how to do this correctly. Roll the wire into a circle and begin winding the next rows over the first row;

It is necessary that the workpiece is dense. Otherwise, it will not be able to support the weight of the decorations that you are not going to attach to it.

  • wrap the workpiece with paper. Wrap the workpiece in paper, crumpling it a little to make it easier to attach. If you are not using a whole sheet, but several sheets, secure each of them separately with tape. Use wide masking tape. It is inconvenient to attach paper with a regular small skein. Repeat this step twice to make the finished exterior piece look more voluminous;
  • paint the base. In case something peeks out from under the tinsel, paint the base with green paint. As a rule, green rain is used in the wreath making process. Choose a shade of paint that matches it exactly. To ensure the paint dries quickly, dry it lightly with a hairdryer;
  • glue the tinsel. Watch the video on how to properly glue tinsel onto a DIY Christmas wreath;

  • make decorations. Now all that remains is to make the decorations and attach them to the workpiece. Make bows from beautiful golden paper. Wrapping paper and pieces of plastic (or some other material) will be needed to make toy gifts. They will also need a beautiful thin ribbon, preferably red. Glue the wrapping paper to the workpiece and tie beautiful bows. Decorate the cones with gold powder. Attach the decorations to the base and straighten them. Try to distribute them evenly on the decor item;
  • think about how you will hang the wreath. Some people prefer to attach it to the front door directly with tape. However, we believe that it is better to attach the accessory to a magnet. This way you can secure it tightly to the door without using additional unnecessary parts.

Technique for creating a felt wreath

A hand-sewn felt Christmas wreath is a real panel that can decorate every home. Thanks to this decoration, your home will be filled with comfort and warmth, without which it is impossible to imagine the New Year holidays.

  • workpiece;
  • sackcloth;
  • felt;
  • Christmas tree branches (artificial or natural);
  • cones;
  • decorative elements;
  • scissors;

  2. Cut flowers from the wind. Use pre-created or downloaded templates from the Internet. After that, all that remains is to fasten them together using a thread and a needle.

What scrap materials will you need to make a beautiful decoration for your home:

  • cylindrical objects (remnants of cling film or shaving foam packaging)
  • twisted newspaper tubes;
