Cushion in the shape of a cat with a pattern. DIY cat pillow using stencils

Today we will sew such an original and very cute cat. If desired, it can also be used as a pillow. Although it looks much more appropriate as an unusual interior detail.

Sewing this beautiful and original pillow in the shape of a cat yourself is quite simple.

Making a cat pillow

1. First we need to make patterns of all the individual parts of the cat: its head, ears, paws. Then we move on to cutting out the main body of the pillow. The width of the pillow must be such that it can accommodate your head and paws.

2. We cut out the nose according to the pattern, increasing its linear dimensions by about 1–1.5 cm. To fill the nose, we cut out three parts from padding polyester, each should be smaller than the other (the first is slightly smaller than the base of the nose). The parts can be point-to-point connected to each other with glue.

We put fragments of padding polyester into the main part of the nose, sew along the edge and tighten it, giving the desired shape.

3. Making the eyes. We take special cardboard for bags so that we can then wash the main cover. We cut out two circles from cardboard according to the size of the eyes on the pattern. We cut out two circles from white fabric, with a diameter 1–1.5 cm larger than the pattern.

Take black iris threads. Using a large needle, make a French knot. We sew white fabric in a circle. We put cardboard inside and tighten it.

4. Cut out two squares of blue fabric for the head. We glue one square with interlining from the inside out. We transfer the design onto the fabric and mark it with stitches.

We place a sheet of paper underneath to make it easier to advance the fabric. Sew the mustache and mouth in a zigzag along the marked lines. It is better to use thick threads. We bring the threads out with a needle inside out and fasten them, carefully removing excess paper.

5. Sew the nose to the head. First, carefully glue it, and then sew it in a circle.

6. Sew the eyes to the head in the same way.

7. Making ears. Inside the ears you need to put one or two padding pads slightly smaller than the base and stitch them from the bottom.

8. Cut out the head from the square, adding 1.5–2 cm to the seam. Sew on the ears. The main thing here is not to confuse right and left.

Fold the top and bottom parts of the head and sew them together. Leave a piece at the bottom so you can turn it inside out.

Trim off excess fabric. We turn the head inside out, fill it with padding polyester, and sew up the hole.

9. Cut out the paws and tail. We sew the parts together, turn them inside out, and fill them with padding polyester. In the places where the paws are marked, we “mark” them by hand stitching with large stitches with thick thread 2-3 times.

10. Cut out the cat’s body from a rectangular piece of the main fabric, with a zipper provided on the side. We insert the front legs into the front seam and stitch. We insert the tail and two hind legs into the rear transverse seam. We also sew. We manually sew the head to the cat's body.

Separately sew a pillow of cotton fabric of the required size. We fill it with padding polyester. We insert the pillow into the cat's body. That's it, our pillow cat is ready!

This is the kind of charm we got!

Good afternoon, dear needlewomen and all blog readers!

Once I published photos, cheerful, positive ones. Among them were cat pillows. And some readers became interested in them. Today I decided to tell you how to make a cat pillow with your own hands, I found some original patterns for you.

There are probably a lot of people who love these cute pets. They are so affectionate, so smart. Cats are known to relieve fatigue and stress and even heal!

A pillow in the shape of a cat will also help lift your spirits; you can cuddle it or lie down, snuggle up and hug it comfortably.

Patterns for pillows - cats

The fastest way to sew a cat pillow. These can be either small toy pillows or a big cat - a sofa pillow.

I offer you a selection of patterns from PrettyToys magazine, as well as others found in free Internet sources.

Save the pattern to your computer, enlarge it in the editor and print it.

You can transfer it to graph paper, and then draw a larger template in the cells.

Or simply draw the details of the cat on a piece of paper (newspaper) while looking at the sample on the screen. Even if you don’t know how to draw, you will definitely succeed! After all, it is not at all necessary to be precise here.

How to sew a cat pillow with your own hands

For the cat pillow, we select a bright fabric; it will be interesting to make a cat from flowered fabric, from different scraps.

We transfer the pattern to the fabric folded in half with the right side inward, cut out the parts and stitch them on the machine, leaving a little space so that you can stuff the pillow with filler.

For double seals, sew the body parts together.

Advice: inIf the muzzle, eyes and various decorative elements are sewn on top, then you first need to cut them out and sew them on the front side.

No need to cut out small parts! We pin them together with pins and sew them on the machine along the drawn lines, and then cut them out. This makes it much more convenient to sew and the parts will not move.

By the way, you can also make seams on the outside, then you won’t have to turn out small parts, but just carefully finish the edges with a zigzag. Such products with the seams facing out are also very interesting and creative.

If the edges of the fabric are not fraying too much, you can try cutting the fringe along the edge with scissors; you will get a tousled cat pillow.

All that remains is to fill the parts with padding polyester or holofiber. Sew paws and tails to the body, if required by the model.

We sew on eyes - buttons, decorate with flowers and bows. Isn’t it true, it turned out to be a funny DIY cat pillow?!

I would like to present to you my works - two plush adorable little cats.

Plush kittens. Work by Olga Arisep

The kittens are made of faux fur with short pile. The head is made with a cotter pin, so kittens can turn their heads. For the eyes, special glass eyes for cats were used. The bow is made of satin ribbon and decorated with a pearl-like bead.

Other pillow options with cats

Pillows in the shape of cats are very popular in the world. Why not get yourself such a wonderful pillow? Moreover, you can do it yourself. After all, your home with such a pillow will become more comfortable and will improve the mood of its residents and guests. A cat pillow is not at all a useless item; in addition to its direct purpose - a pillow, it will also be an excellent armrest or decorative item. Store-bought pillows have become so banal that now the best thing to surprise others is a DIY cat pillow.

We have prepared interesting patterns, using which you can make amazing pillows. Those who like to lie on the sofa with their pets are not always able to catch them in their place, but in order not to get bored without them at all, a cat pillow will be a temporary substitute for a living friend.

Of course, you can simply print a photo of your younger friend on fabric in a specialized salon, but this is not interesting. The realized idea as in the photo will leave much more impressions.

Moreover, everything that is made with one’s own hands is worthy of greater respect.

Simple stencils

You can make a pillow using stencils. It's pretty simple.

The stencils are made independently; you can draw absolutely any cat silhouette. This is done on thick paper. If you don’t want to draw, you can find a picture you like and just print it. Next, it is cut along the contour and transferred to the fabric. Now all that remains is to cut it, sew it and fill it with filler.

Fleece motifs

Fleece is a very soft and pleasant fabric, it is ideal for various needlework. We will conduct a detailed master class on making a cat pillow from fleece.

To work we need the following components:

  • either two pieces of fleece in different colors, or fleece and felt, also in different colors. A large piece of fabric will be used for the cat’s body, and a small one for the face, that is, one should be darker in color, the other lighter;
  • threads, needles, scissors;
  • all kinds of decorations, if desired.

Let's make a pattern, the picture shows a pattern with a scale without specific numbers, decide for yourself what size your pillow should be, and calculate its size.

We transfer the finished pattern onto the fabric with a pencil, pen or marker so that we can clearly see the contours. We pin the fabric, folded right sides together, so that it does not move.

Now we sew on a machine or sew by hand directly along the contour, leaving room for the possibility of filling with entrails. When everything is stitched, we cut it out with scissors according to the shape of the parts, but leave a little less than one centimeter allowance.

We prepare a small incision at the site of the mouth. This should be done if you forgot to leave room in the seam for filling the guts. After filling with filler, this incision is sutured.

Having drawn it on a piece of paper, we transfer it all to the fabric and embroider it. Now the finished face is pinned for fitting with needles. And if we’re happy with everything we’ve got, we sew it on.

Add the tail last.

This cute cat pillow will now live in your home or go as a gift to someone to visit.

Knitted option

You can knit not only sweaters, but also beautiful little things, like this cat pillow. It is knitted with regular needles of medium thickness. You can also use any kind of thread. Two similar squares are knitted. The size is chosen at your discretion. After the squares are ready, they are sewn together and filled with soft insides. You can even simplify your task and knit not two squares, but one rectangle, which is then simply folded.

To the finished regular knitted pillow, all that remains is to add paws, a tail and build a muzzle.

Sleeping cat

The Scops Owl cat is very popular. Well, it’s true, cats spend most of their lives sleeping. This prompted this idea.

Volumetric heart made of roses

A handmade pillow can be a wonderful gift. Armed with imagination and a thread and a needle, you can even turn it into a unique Valentine’s card. We offer you a step-by-step master class on making an unusual pillow with a voluminous heart.

To work you will need:

  • ready-made pillow of the desired size;
  • fabric for roses, which does not require overcasting the cut;
  • scissors;
  • needle and thread.
Cut circles with a diameter of approximately 8 cm from the fabric; they may be slightly crooked and slightly different in size. This will only add volume and realism to the flowers.

Take the circle of fabric by the middle, gather it, forming folds as in the photo. Secure the workpiece in the desired position with a couple of stitches.

Sew another circle of fabric from the bottom, forming a voluminous bud.

Continue sewing circles onto the rose until you get the desired size flower.

Prepare the remaining roses using the same scheme. Their number depends on the size of the flower heart.

Sew the flowers to the pillow starting with the outline of the heart.

Place the pieces tightly together so that there are no gaps between them. A magnificent heart is ready to conquer and conquer hearts.

This designer pillow will decorate the room of a capricious fashionista or become the highlight of your living room. And she will lift your spirits just by looking at her.

Fluffy pillow

An original pillow with fringe will fit well into any interior. Pleasant to the touch fleece will make it a favorite thing not only in the children's room.

To work you will need:

  • fleece for the base of the pillow and fringe;
  • filler;
  • scissors;
  • threads;
  • pins;
  • sewing machine.
Cut two 40 x 40 cm squares from fleece.

It is better to choose a fabric for fringe several colors of the same range- you will get a stylish transition between them. In our case, we use 10 strips of 37*10 cm in three shades of brown.

Fold each strip in half and cut the fringe.

Sew the first strip to the base of the pillow, 1 cm from the edges. This is the result you should get.

Next, bend the fringe to one side.

Sew a second strip next to it at a distance of approximately 1.5 cm from the first.

Continue sewing the fringe in the same way. Alternate dark stripes with light ones through several rows, achieving a beautiful and smooth transition of colors.

Place a second square on top of the fringed piece and pin along the edges. Sew the pillow around the perimeter, leaving a small hole for stuffing.

Turn pillow inside out and stuff with filling. It is better to use a synthetic winterizer or holofiber. Natural materials, such as cotton wool and fluff, can clump over time and the product will lose its neat appearance.

Sew up the opening with a blind stitch.

It turns out to be a very beautiful sofa cushion that will create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort in your home.

Pillow "Butterfly Wings"

We present to you a detailed photo lesson on decorating an interior pillow. Even if sewing is not your thing, you can easily master it: you will need a ready-made pillow for the job. Following step-by-step instructions, you will turn an ordinary pillowcase into a masterpiece of art design.

Pillow-toy “Owl”

A funny and bright owl is a win-win gift option for both adults and children. When such a cute bird settles in your baby’s bedroom, he will be happy not only to sleep with it, but also to play with it.

To work you will need:

  • cotton in two colors;
  • felt for eyes and beak;
  • black buttons or beads for pupils;
  • ribbon for bow;
  • chalk;
  • threads;
  • needle and pins for sewing;
  • scissors;
  • lace;
  • filler.
Transfer the owl pattern to paper in the desired size.

Attach the pattern to the fabric and cut out the necessary parts; make an allowance of 1 centimeter for the body and wings.

To decorate the toy, lace, bows and a wooden flower button are used. If you are using a life-size pattern, then cut out a rectangle of 8*16 cm and a square with a side of 4.5 cm for the bow, or change the size of these parts in proportion to the owl.

Sew on the beak and lace with a zigzag stitch. Lace is placed in the center of the body, between the wings.

Sew wings and eyes with the same seam. Attach the black pupil buttons by hand.

Fold the parts of the owl's body right sides inward, secure with pins and sew. Leave a hole at the bottom between the wings for further manipulation.

Turn the toy inside out, iron it and fill it with stuffing. If you used ordinary scissors to cut out the parts, before turning them inside out, make neat notches near the ears and in all convex places so that the fabric does not tighten.

Sew the hole closed with a blind stitch.

You can do some decorating. Fold the square for the bow into a strip and iron it.

Fold the rectangle in half with the right side facing inward and sew, leaving a 1 cm seam allowance.

Turn it inside out, gather it in the middle and sew on the prepared strip, forming a bow. Sew it to the owl's ear.

Tie a bow from a small piece of ribbon, sew it and a wooden button to the body of the toy.

Such a cute owl will reliably guard your sleep.

Another idea to implement is to sew a respectable eagle owl according to this pattern. It’s enough just to show your imagination and choose the appropriate color scheme and design for the toy.

Pillow with applique “Cat in Love”

An elegant pillow with a cool applique is a wonderful gift for any occasion. With its help, you can confess your feelings or simply cheer up your loved one.

To work you will need:

  • thick white pillowcase 35*35cm;
  • cotton shreds in 4 colors;
  • white interlining;
  • iron;
  • 3 green beads for eyes;
  • threads to match the fabric;
  • decorative braid.

Cut out two rectangles 17*13 cm- clouds around the cat and fish. In our case, they are white with orange polka dots. You can choose the color to suit your taste.

The cat's body is a rectangle 16*12 cm, orange with small white polka dots.

Cut a rectangle from white fabric 20*11 cm. From it you will get the eyes and thoughts of a cat.

Cut out a rectangle 10*5 cm made of green fabric for the body of the fish.

Fold the non-woven fabric with the adhesive side to the wrong side of the rectangles and iron them so that they stick together. This will make it easier to cut out small parts and they will not crumble.

Cut out the blanks for the applique. You can use cardboard templates or immediately cut out parts from fabric.

Arrange the elements on the pillowcase and achieve the desired image. Mark the ground line using decorative tape. Choose the expression of the cat's loving eyes.

When you have decided on the location of all the elements of the application, you can proceed to the last stage. All that remains is to sew them to the pillowcase.

Using a small white zigzag stitch, stitch the outline of the white cloud to the polka dot cloud.

Using a green zigzag, sew the outline of the fish to the prepared two-layer cloud. Embroider the fish's fins and the outline of the head. Attach an eye bead.

Sew the parts of the cat with a fine zigzag using threads to match the fabric. Lastly, attach the eyes and embroider his mustache.

Embroidered paws will add even more charm to the animal. You can complement the applique with small flowers to make the composition more expressive.

The finished pillow will definitely take the crown place on the sofa in the living room and will become the star of your interior.

  • fleece;
  • interlining;
  • scissors;
  • iron;
  • filler;
  • chalk or special marker for fabric;
  • floss threads;
  • 2 buttons;
  • pins;
  • pattern.
First of all, print out the kitten pattern on paper or redraw it by hand. Cut out all the elements.

Place the body pattern on the fabric, trace and cut it out with a 1 cm allowance. Place the part with the wrong side on the adhesive side of the interlining, secure with pins and cut out. Prepare the second piece of the fleece body in the same way.

Cut out the kitten's paws, ears and tail.

Remove the pins and iron the two-layer body parts so that the cotton adheres to the interlining.

Fold the parts of the ears, legs and tail in pairs with the right sides inward and sew them on a machine, leaving holes for turning them inside out. Cut the stitched blanks with curly scissors or make regular notches.

Turn the parts inside out and iron them, stuff them with filler. Sew the holes with a zigzag. Use pins to attach the resulting pieces to the front side of the cat's front. Sew them to the kitten's body using a zigzag.

Draw the cat's face with chalk.

Place the fleece piece (back) on top and secure it with pins. Sew the pieces together, leaving a small hole at the bottom for turning inside out. Trim the seam allowances with curly scissors or make regular notches.

Turn the workpiece right side out and iron it. Fill the toy with filler and sew up the hole left earlier with a hidden seam.

Decorate pillowcases with plant prints

An original way to decorate a pillowcase with a floral design is to transfer prints of living fresh grass and leaves onto it. A product with this design will be unique and one of a kind. It will also warm you up on winter evenings with thoughts of warm summer.

To work you will need:

  • natural light fabric;
  • freshly picked plants;
  • hammer;
  • scissors;
  • parchment, preferably siliconized for baking.

Fern, plantain, and clover are perfect for prints. Pick the plant you need, spread it on the fabric and cover with parchment. Beat it very hard with a hammer so that the juice comes out of the leaves, which is absorbed into the fabric and forms an imprint. Remember: Plants need to be picked on a hard, flat surface.

Experiment with different leaves, stems, and placement to get the look you want.

Today, a cat in the house is a common thing, and a devoted furry pet becomes a real member of the family. Pillows in the shape of a cat are not just a fashion trend, but also a symbol of kindness, family warmth and devotion.
