So, we knit the bottom according to the scheme. It consists of 11 rows (The ring of a chain of 10 ch is the 0th row). 12th row - CCH (double crochets) in each loop of the previous row, there are no additions here. We knit CCH directly under the arches and only where they fall on the tops of the CCH of the previous row - we knit at the top of these columns, i.e. into the loop itself.

The finished bottom looks like this and its diameter should be about 11-11.5 cm. In this case, the final size of the panama will be 44-45 cm. If your diameter is larger, then the size of the panama will increase accordingly.

12th row - the CCH row is already the first row of the side part of the panama hat, where no additions are made. After it, we begin to knit the side part according to this pattern.

Immediately panama begins to round down and take the desired shape.

With the main pattern for the side of the panama we knit 13 rows, the 14th row - CCH, from the 15th to the 17th row - the pattern for the sides, the 18th last row - CCH. Here's what the result should be.
The depth of the resulting panama hat is 14 cm. The width is 22 cm. (if folded in half).

We carry out the binding of the lower edge of the panama.
1st row: 1 ch of lifting * 3SC (single crochet) in three loops of the previous row, 5 ch (air loops), skip 4 loops of the previous row *, repeat from * to *, finish the row with SS (connecting column) and make another SS to advance to the central RLS of three.
2nd row: 1 ch lift, * 8sc in the arch of 5 ch, 1sc in the central sc from the previous three rows *, repeat from * to *.

Now we proceed to the most interesting - ruffles. It was for them that we knitted several rows with solid CCHs, or rather three rows (one at the top, immediately after the bottom, and two at the bottom). Each ruffle consists of three rows.
The 1st row is RLS, which we impose on top of the CCH row in a zigzag. Each zigzag step consists of 4 sc.
In the lowest strip of ruffle, which goes above the strapping of the lower edge of the panama, it is important to position the zigzag in such a way that the ruffle wave passes under the arch, and not under the three RLS - otherwise the scallops of the strapping will bend inward.
In the remaining two strips, you can place the zigzag arbitrarily.
We knit the 2nd row of ruffles as follows. We start a row with 3 lifting VPs, * 1SN, skip 1 loop of the previous row, 1VP * repeat from * to *.

And, finally, the 3rd, last row is a row of RLS in each loop of the previous row (more precisely, at the top of the CCH, under the arch, etc.).

On the other two strips of CCH, we impose ruffles in the same way. This is how the panama should turn out. Thanks to the ruffle trim, it holds its shape quite well...like a starched hat.
