How to wash a dress. How to wash a wedding dress: in a washing machine and by hand

Nastya, one of our authors, was invited to be a witness at a friend's wedding. She took this role very seriously and offered to help the future bride in absolutely everything. And when the question arose whether it was worth washing the dress before the wedding and whether it was possible to do it at all, she decided to look into this issue in as much detail as possible. And to help other brides, she wrote this article.

Is it possible to wash a wedding dress in a washing machine

Most modern dresses without rhinestones and beads are easy to wash in the machine, if the composition of the fabric allows it. Before washing, a dress with rhinestones should be put in a special bag large enough so as not to damage the trim elements.

You can wash the dress before the wedding. Other girls could measure it in the store, so it would be useful to slightly refresh it before the celebration. But if there is no visible contamination on the product, it is better to abandon this idea in order to avoid unexpected shrinkage or damage to the material. But after the wedding, as signs say, the dress should not be touched before the first child is born.

Let's start washing

For efficient and gentle washing in the machine, use the following recommendations.

Choosing the right tool

In order to wash a wedding dress, purchase a special liquid detergent for delicate fabrics; ordinary washing powder will not work in this case. Also make sure that it matches in color: the composition with the inscription "Color" is not suitable for a snow-white product, but it is useful for an ivory dress.

Choose mode and temperature

Most dresses are made of chiffon, satin, silk, lace or tulle. All these fabrics are very thin and require careful care, so the washing method for them is the same.

Select a gentle program on the machine: "Delicate mode", "Silk" or "Hand wash", spin should be turned off completely or set to the minimum number of revolutions, if possible.

It is best to take advantage of the short cycle option. The washing temperature should not exceed 30 degrees. It will also be useful to use the extra rinse mode to wash the remnants of the product from the fabric. If necessary, apply stain remover according to package directions. But bleach or Whiteness should not be used, otherwise the dress may turn yellow.

So that the detergent does not leave streaks, it is better to buy a colorless gel or liquid detergent. Even special compositions for lace products are sold. If you want to keep your skirt fluffy, you can add some starch to the conditioner tray.

In order not to damage the corset, which will then be impossible to restore, do not turn on too many revolutions and high water temperatures.

Embroidery, beads or rhinestones

If there are such decorations on the dress, you should sew pieces of fabric on top for protection before washing and turn the product inside out or use a special cover. Before you put the item in the machine, inspect all the decorative elements. If the threads with which they are fixed are damaged, the beads can simply crumble around the typewriter. Sew it on with thread by hand if necessary.

How to dry

The appearance of the dress after washing will largely depend on how you dry it. In order not to spoil the elegant thing, there are a few subtleties. In no case do not wring out the thing, because it is easy to damage it. The structure of wedding dresses is such that it will be very difficult to return the lost appearance to them. Some advise to dry the product on a hanger, because in the process of draining the water, the folds will smooth out themselves.

Another method involves horizontal drying, it is considered more gentle. Place a clean grate on the bottom of the tub. Make sure it is free of dust and rust. From above, place the dress in a straightened form and wait until the water has completely drained. Then you can place it on a hanger, carefully smoothing each fold with your hands, and after a couple of hours hang it on the balcony.

You can also use a special electric horizontal dryer. On it, the fabric will not be able to stretch under its own weight and will not lose its shape.

If the product is cotton, then it can be dried only on a horizontal surface on a thick terry towel in a straightened state.

If you are afraid that the fabric may turn yellow, keep it in a dark room during drying so that the sun's rays do not fall on it. And in no case do not dry the product on or near heating appliances. It is also undesirable to use a hair dryer.

How to pet

First of all, make sure that the surface of the ironing board is absolutely clean, free of dust and grease. Lay a clean white sheet over it. Then inspect the soleplate of the iron itself. If there is soot on it, it must be cleaned off, otherwise difficult-to-remove stains will remain on the dress. Ironing should begin while the product is still slightly damp, so it will be easier to straighten the wrinkles. This should be done from the wrong side of the dress.

The further ironing process will depend on the material from which the dress is sewn. Satin products can only be ironed on the wrong side. If there is lace on the dress, iron them as carefully as possible through cheesecloth or a piece of natural light fabric, and set the mode as for silk. Fatin or chiffon can only be processed with steam. A steamer or iron with a steam function will help here.

What to do if stains remain

After the wedding celebration, spots of a different nature may remain on the dress. To get rid of them, use one of the following tips.

Sweat stains can be removed with a saline solution, but make sure that the salt crystals are completely dissolved in the water.

Wine stains are treated with hot soapy water using a soft sponge, and then rinsed.

If you need to remove grass stains, dissolve a spoonful of ammonia in a glass of warm water. With the resulting composition, blot the dirt with a cotton pad, and when they dry, rub with laundry soap and wash.

Lipstick can be removed with baby powder. Spread it over the fabric, and wash the thing after an hour.

Ballpoint pen ink will remove hairspray. Spray them on problem areas, and after an hour wash the thing.

If you can't remove the dirt, use bleach. Just be extremely careful: chlorine compounds can leave yellow stains on white fabrics, and colored items can simply discolor.

The main thing is to remember that any stain can be washed off at home, but you have a few days to do it as soon as possible after the end of the celebration. But with old stains, significant problems can arise, because, for example, traces of champagne or perfume that are not visible to the eye can appear much later in the form of yellowed stains.

You should also be careful with dirt from cakes or icing. The sugar and fat in these foods gradually oxidize and turn brown. Do not forget that any stains must be removed before you wash the entire dress.

Go to dry cleaners

If your wedding dress was very cheap, you should not dry-clean it for reasons of economy. And many representatives of cleaning services do not take on such products, because they can simply fall apart from exposure to chemicals.

If the dress is expensive, it is very valuable to you, or you are going to sell it, it is better to use the services of professionals rather than clean it at home.

The dress itself was decided not to be washed before the wedding. But the knowledge of how to quickly remove stains from it was very useful at the celebration.

The celebration is over. Pleasant memories and photographs remain, and with them a dirty wedding dress. It is more convenient to give the outfit to dry cleaning, but the procedure is expensive. You can return the material to its previous state at home. The main thing is to know how and what to clean.

What materials are wedding dresses made from?

The material for tailoring the bride's wedding dress is chosen based on the season, type of figure and style. When choosing fabrics, it is important to consider that it is of high quality, strong and at the same time beautiful.

Modern materials give free rein to the unbridled imagination of designers. In one dress, several types of fabrics can be combined at once.

The most popular materials used for sewing a wedding dress:

  • atlas;
  • brocade;
  • taffeta;
  • crepe;
  • silk;
  • organza;
  • chiffon;
  • tulle;
  • lace;
  • velvet;
  • cotton.

According to the texture, the fabric can be matte, shiny, reflective, structured, airy or mixed. By type - natural and synthetic.

Washing rules

Before washing the outfit by hand or in the washing machine, read the instructions on the labels. It indicates the temperature, the possibility of ironing and the method of removing dirt, whether the product can be taken to dry cleaning.

First of all, determine the fabric of the wedding dress. Most often, synthetic materials are used, they can be placed in a typewriter or washed by hand. The type of fabric is indicated on the product label, usually in English.

The hem is the dirtiest place. Needs high-quality cleaning and pre-treatment. Only the bottom should be cleaned, keeping the rest dry.

Dresses decorated with decorative stones, embroideries and other elements should be washed carefully. With a strong mechanical impact, they will peel off, as a result, the store will not accept back the rented outfit.

The last rule of washing a wedding dress is not to wash petticoats with rings in the washing machine. This accessory is made of tulle, which does not tolerate mechanical stress. And the rings in the petticoat are deformed during washing in an automatic machine.

With love and diligence, the chosen wedding dress after the celebration rarely remains without stains and dirt. It doesn’t matter what fate awaits the outfit - long-term storage for showing to the granddaughter or a quick sale, it must be washed. This must be done in a short time to remove dirt and stains without a trace. Consider how to wash a wedding dress yourself, what means and methods to use so as not to spoil the outfit.

Most dresses can be washed by yourself. It is worth contacting a dry cleaner if the outfit is very complicated, and the institution itself has proven a high level, and the results of their previous work have never disappointed.

Before starting work, it is important to understand how to handle the fabric and decorative elements, what detergents will be required. Some fabrics shrink after improper washing, not all decorations can be smoothed out with high quality. Before the wedding, it is better not to wash the dress, to get rid of possible defects by local cleaning of individual parts, so as not to spoil the outfit and the whole celebration.

Training

You need to clean your wedding dress as early as possible. If the outfit lies dirty for a long time, you will have to deal with old pollution - and this is more difficult and does not always give a result.

Learning the shortcut

The dress must be handled as recommended by the manufacturers. They indicate on the labels the recommended washing and ironing modes. After studying these instructions, you need to stock up on high-quality detergent, iron and steamer.

visual inspection

A thorough study of the condition of the wedding dress will help determine the scope of work - the need to remove stains (it's very good to remember what they came from) and general washing of the product. If possible, you need to remove decor elements from the outfit that can be removed if they do not need washing.

Usually cleaning is needed:

  • the hem of the dress (if it is long);
  • bodice on the inside, especially under the armpits, where there are traces of sweat and deodorant.

Spots can be randomly located anywhere. It is necessary to remove them before soaking, so that later the dress does not have to be washed.

Choice of detergents

To wash complex white dresses and remove individual contaminants, special and folk remedies are used that do not harm the fabric and give the product whiteness. Do not use bleach with chlorine, aggressive detergents, even with heavy pollution.

saline solution

Salt solution helps to remove sweat stains, refresh white color. Prepare the composition at the rate of a tablespoon of table salt per glass of water. Salt is taken of high quality, white, without any additives.

Soft washing powder

It is better not to wash wedding dresses with washing powders. If washing powder is used, it must first be diluted with water until all the granules are completely dissolved. It is better to strain the water so that the undissolved particles do not spoil the fabric.

soap solution

A solution of soap (especially household soap) quickly removes many contaminants. The soap is ground on a grater and dissolved in warm water.

Sparkling water

Bubbles of carbon dioxide contribute to the dissolution of contaminants on the fabric, remove particles of impurities from the fibers. Water is chosen white, without any fillers. It is better to use highly carbonated.

boiled milk

Boiled milk is good for removing traces of ink. A product with a minimum amount of fat is selected. Milk is boiled and cooled before use.

Baby powder or talc

With the help of white powders (powder, talc) you can remove traces of cosmetics and sweat. These handy products can draw the dirt out of the white fabric. They help well with fresh stains on a wedding dress, they cope worse with old stains.

Starch

Starch is traditionally used to give shape and stiffness to garments. Potato starch does a good job with grease stains from food, as well as traces of sweat.

Features of removing various stains

Before washing a wedding dress, all stains must be identified and removed using the appropriate products suitable for this type of soiling.

Wine

It is impossible to protect a wedding dress from splashes of champagne. If during the wedding the trouble could be noticed immediately, you can sprinkle white soda on the dress so that the champagne does not leave yellow marks and it is easier to wash it off.

Remove old wine stains:

  • a mixture of ammonia and water in equal parts - applied to the fabric, wait a few minutes and sprinkle with talcum powder;
  • hydrogen peroxide applied to a swab;
  • warm soapy water.

For white wine, sparkling water is also used.

Traces of sweat

To remove stains from sweat from the bodice help:

  • saline solution (a tablespoon per glass);
  • laundry soap dissolved in water;
  • dishwashing liquid.

When cleaning the bodice, you should try not to apply substances to the decorative elements.

From dirt and dust

Long skirts always turn out to be stained with dust and dirt particles. To clean skirts, use liquid detergents or a soap solution. Pre-treat the fabric with a dry brush or sponge, carefully shake off the still dry dirt. Only after that, the fabric is immersed in washing solutions for 20-30 minutes and gently rubbed with a damp sponge.

lipstick marks

Cosmetics leave stained greasy marks. It is better not to touch them with hands and sponges so that the particles do not penetrate deep into the fabric. Pollution is covered with talc, starch, chalk or baby powder. Leave for an hour, do not rub the powders. Then gently shake off the powder.

ink stains

Remove ink stains with hairspray. The product is sprayed on dirt and left for an hour, then the dress is washed in detergent.

Other

Consider ways to eliminate some other possible pollution.

Grease stains are removed in the following ways:

  • sprinkle with salt and rub lightly, leave for a few minutes, then shake off;
  • a tablespoon of glycerin and water, a teaspoon of ammonia - apply for 10 minutes, rinse, repeat if necessary;
  • starch is poured onto the stain, lightly massaging with your fingers, cleaned with a soft sponge.

Grass stains are well removed with a solution of ammonia (a tablespoon in a glass of water). The pre-contaminated area is treated with a soapy solution, then a solution of ammonia is applied with a swab for 10 minutes. The dress is washed.

Reference: before treating the stain, moisten the cloth around it with water. Clean with the chosen agent, moving from the edge to the middle, so that the dirt does not spread further through the fabric.

How to clean the hem

To clean the hem, the wedding dress is hung up so that the edge can be immersed in a bath or basin, and the bodice remains dry. Prepare slightly warm water (30-40 °, depending on the fabric), dissolve the detergent. Immerse the skirt to the desired depth and leave for 20-30 minutes. Pass through contaminated areas with a soft brush or sponge. Process the lining and petticoats from the front and back sides. Rinse thoroughly and dry.

How to clean a corset

Corsets usually contain basic decorative elements, embroidery, rhinestones. In order not to lose jewelry, you need to work with the bodice carefully, avoiding complete wetting, creases and strong folds. First, stains are removed from the face, then the corset is turned inside out to eliminate traces of sweat. All products are used in a minimal amount so that the fabric does not get wet, and the jewelry does not peel off.

After removing the dirt, the corset is just as carefully wiped with a sponge with clean water from detergents.

Excess moisture is removed by pressing a clean white cloth, then dried on a horizontal surface.

Hand washing methods

In most cases, wedding dresses still need to be washed. It helps to wash the remnants of soap and powders after removing stains, remove stains, and refresh the product. It is better to wash by hand if the manufacturers do not recommend machine washing.

With a large number of decorations on the bodice, you can sew a rare fabric on them (gauze in 2 layers) so as not to accidentally rip off. Bulky wedding dresses are difficult to wash in a basin, so they use a bath or shower.

In the bathroom

Water is poured into the bath so much to completely immerse the wedding dress in a straightened form. Water temperature - 30-40 °. Thoroughly dissolve the detergent, preferably liquid. The dress is lowered for 30-40 minutes, during which time all the pollution will have time to move away. Heavily soiled areas are rubbed with a sponge or soft brush. The dress is taken out, the soapy water is allowed to drain, then it is rinsed in several waters. The product cannot be pressed.

With the help of the soul

A less soiled wedding dress can be washed in the shower. Water temperature - 30-35 °. First, the product is well soaked with a not very strong jet. The detergent is diluted in a separate container, applied to the dress with a sponge - over the entire surface or selectively. Leave for 5-10 minutes, then lightly rub.

Rinse also with a shower, pouring from above until clean water comes out.

How to machine wash

Many wedding dresses can be washed in automatic machines, the manufacturer allows this. This should be done carefully, following the recommendations on the label and some rules:

  • the dress should fit freely in the drum of the machine without excessive squeezing and tightness;
  • they wash the wedding dress alone, packing it in a special laundry bag;
  • if there are very small beads and sequins on the dress, it is better to replace the mesh bag with a thin fabric (for example, a pillowcase);
  • outgoing parts (frills, lace, guipure) can be easily sewn to the dress;
  • rhinestones, beads, beads sew up with a layer of fabric.

Stains must be removed first.

Tip: before washing, take a picture of the decorative elements so that you can return the flying pieces to their place.

Mode

To wash dresses, choose machine modes with a low number of revolutions so that the outfit does not curl or wrinkle. Suitable modes "Silk", "Hand" or "Delicate" wash. If the dress is voluminous, you should include an additional rinse.

Temperature

It is necessary to wash elegant dresses at a temperature of 30-40 °. This is enough for modern detergents to completely remove all contaminants, and the fabric does not turn yellow from heating.

Choice of remedy

For washing it is better to use liquid detergents. When choosing a powder, preference is given to products for delicate fabrics intended for white linen. If desired, starch is added to the rinse tray so that the dress holds its shape better.

Spin

If possible, spin off or perform the most gentle, at low speeds. It is better to remove the dress when wet and let the water drain naturally. The dress should be taken out of the machine immediately after washing is completed, so that the creases and folds do not fix, it is easier to iron.

How to dry properly

After rinsing, the dress is laid on a grate or a basin so that the water is glassed. After that, the product must be carefully straightened, all parts aligned, given the correct natural position and sent for drying. Depending on the shape of the wedding dress and the type of fabric, you can dry it in two positions. For drying, choose a well-ventilated area without direct sunlight.

Hanger

On hangers it is convenient to dry outfits made of light fabrics without heavy decor, which can stretch and deform the product. If there is a train, it is placed on a separate stand, having previously straightened it.

Unfolding on a plane

Dresses made of thick fabrics that absorb a lot of moisture, with multiple, heavy decorations, are laid out horizontally. A clean white fabric (sheets, duvet covers) is spread under them, which are periodically replaced with dry ones for faster drying.

With any method of drying, the process is regularly monitored - the fabric is straightened, folds and creases are stretched by hand. Heating devices to speed up drying are not used so that the fabric does not turn yellow and does not deform.

How to pet

Ironing a wedding dress is often more difficult than washing. It is better to do this immediately, before the product is dry. Would need:

  • ironing board;
  • a good iron with a protective sole - thoroughly washed, with a steamer cleaned of scale, so as not to plant yellow spots.

It is better to call an assistant who will support a heavy product, stretch and insure. The floor near the ironing board should be washed, or better, covered with a clean white cloth so that debris and dust do not accumulate in the washed outfit.

The dress

Dresses, according to tradition, begin to be ironed from the sleeves, collar (if any), bodice. A narrow board is used for ironing the sleeves. The bodice with embroidery, rhinestones is ironed from the wrong side, placing a soft fabric under the decorative elements. Skirts are ironed, starting from the bottom, layer by layer rising up.

Attention: after ironing, the wedding dress is placed on a coat hanger, allowed to cool well, sag, only after that it is put into a case.

fatu

The easiest way to give a veil a decent look is to lightly spray and hang it on a coat hanger. In a few days, the lightweight fabric will straighten itself out. You can quickly iron a veil in several ways.

Steamer

A handheld steamer will remove creases and creases in no time. The veil is hung on hangers and processed in layers at the minimum temperature of the device.

Hot water

The bath is filled with very hot water, creating the effect of a bath in the room. The veil is hung over the bathtub.

hair dryer

Processing a light veil with a hair dryer is similar to steaming. The veil is wetted from the sprayer, the average temperature is set on the hair dryer and blown from top to bottom until the fabric is completely dry.

Directed steam jet

Separate creases and folds on the veil can be straightened by holding it over the spout of a boiling kettle or over a pot of water.

Iron

To iron the veil, set the minimum heating of the iron and check the effect on a small area of \u200b\u200bthe fabric. A protective sole is put on the iron or ironed through a dry cloth.

Decorative sequins, beads, embroidery are ironed through a dense fabric. It is difficult to iron such areas with an iron; it is better to use steaming in any way.

How to steam

Many elements of the dress can only be put in order by steaming. Bows, draperies, tucks and other elements cannot be ironed out with an iron. Ironing will only spoil such decor. Consider the main methods of steaming at home.

With the help of boiling water

If the items that have not been ironed are small, they can be held over a pot of boiling water. Handle the dress carefully so as not to burn yourself and do not dip the item in boiling water. To steam the entire dress, use the bathroom. The door is closed, a hot shower is turned on, water is drawn into the bath. The dress is hung on hangers in a damp room so that the distance to the water is 15-25 centimeters.

This method is dangerous for glued decorative elements that may fall off.

With an iron

Steam ironing is used on many fabrics. For protection or a damp cloth. Note that delicate fabrics (satin, silk) are not ironed through gauze, as traces of fibers will remain on them. First set the minimum temperature that provides steaming, then, if necessary, increase. Skirts start steaming from the bottom.

Professional steamer

In the presence of a steamer, the dress is easy to bring into perfect condition. The device is filled with water, heated in accordance with the instructions.

Steaming starts from the skirt, moving from the lower layers to the upper ones. Then move on to the bodice, sleeves. Use special tools to process small parts.

The subtleties of working with various fabrics

On elegant wedding dresses, different types of fabrics are used, multiple decorative elements, so it is difficult to wash and iron them. You should study the recommendations on the tag so as not to spoil the outfit with careless handling.

Atlas

Satin dresses are ironed inside out to avoid iron marks. The sole must be in perfect condition so as not to spoil the thin fabric with puffs. It is not worth spraying the dress to moisturize - there may be stains on the fabric.

Lace

Lace elements are ironed through the fabric, placing it on both sides. When ironing tight lace, do not set the temperature of the iron too high so that the lace does not turn yellow.

With decor

Parts of the dress with decorations are difficult to wash and iron. If the decorated bodice can be separated from the skirt, it should not be completely wetted - they are superficially cleaned. Before being sent for washing, the decorated parts are inspected, the sewn elements are strengthened with threads. A loose fabric is sewn onto glued rhinestones and beads so that the elements do not scatter around the typewriter or laundry bag.

A photo of the decor taken before the start of work will help return the fallen decorations to their place. Ironing elements with decor is performed from the inside, placing a soft thick fabric. Better to use a steamer.

How to bleach fabric

After stains are removed, streaks may appear on the wedding dress, the color uniformity is disturbed, and the original whiteness is lost. Some do not deal with pollution separately, they immediately use bleach.

Lion Bright

A series of bleaches for delicate fabrics made in Japan, suitable for removing stains from a wedding dress and restoring the whiteness of fabrics. Means effectively eliminate all pollution received during the holiday - traces of juices, spices, coffee, wine, sweat.

K2r

Very effective tool, made in Austria. K2r does not destroy the structure of the fabric, it is well suited for complex products. Removes all foreign dyes from the product, except for the original. Best used for hand wash only.

FRAU SCHMIDT Lingerie Whiter than White

The product is intended for whitening underwear with lace, patterns and decor. Available in tablets. When bleaching (manual is recommended), you need to calculate the amount of the drug needed for the wedding dress and carefully dissolve the tablets.

Storage rules

After the wedding dress has been restored to its original shine and purity, it is sent for storage. A protective cover covers the outfit from contamination and protects against damage. A few more tips:

  1. If the dress is planned to be sold, it must be done as soon as possible. Wedding fashion is no less changeable than the rest. In a few months, other models will become fashionable, and the chances of a successful sale will disappear.
  2. Stored wedding attire should be regularly taken out and ventilated. It would be useful to put it on to check whether excess weight has appeared from a happy family life.

From strong compression on white fabrics, yellow streaks and stains may occur. It is necessary to provide along with a spacious place in the closet to avoid squeezing and destroying decorative elements. A well-washed and ironed wedding dress will delight you for many years with its beauty and remind you of a happy day. For those who decide to sell the outfit, a successful wash will return the money spent. In any case, the young hostess will take the first step in the difficult work of keeping clean and housekeeping.

The most sensible thing to do is to take the dress to the dry cleaners, but this is where doubts arise, usually caused by the cost of the outfit, doubts about the honesty of the laundry, or even the price of the services requested. If the pollution is minor, you can deal with the problem yourself.

If you know the necessary subtleties of how to wash a wedding dress at home, you can deal with this quite simply. There are only three problems here - your own laziness, the complexity of the purchased outfit for ordinary washing (an abundance of rhinestones or decorative elements) and stains that cannot be dealt with.

Washing a wedding dress is almost always necessary, because it is impossible to spend the whole day in a white or light-colored outfit, getting into a car, taking pictures, spending time in the crush of the registry office and at the festive table, and at the same time never sweat, not come into contact with a contaminated surface and not get dirty with food.

Alternatively, you may see:

  • lipstick stains: someone else's, or even one's own;
  • traces of a poorly packed bouquet;
  • pollution from dust and earth, if the wedding was buzzing in a country mansion or a summer restaurant;
  • stains from spilled and washed wine;
  • grass greens. if you had to pose in nature;
  • fine powder from plaster:
  • traces of burning from the barbecue or fireworks, etc.

When starting washing at home, it should be remembered that machine washing is acceptable for the most simple and unpretentious outfits that do not have decorative glued parts.

Especially undesirable is the placement of a hard corsage in the machine, which is washed by hand with great care in clean water.

A wedding dress requires not only taking into account the fabric from which it is sewn, but also the nature of the planted spots and the minimality of the procedure, if you need to wash off only dust or small circles from sweat.

For hand washing, a standard detergent is rarely used - it is preferable to look for gentle or simple folk remedies, and oxygen bleach is used instead of an aggressive stain remover. The most delicate baby soap or simple laundry soap are more acceptable when washing such a product, and even then, instead of the latter, its soapy solution is used.

If there were rhinestones on the outfit and some of them fell off even after the most gentle procedure, you will have to wash the old, worn-out composition, and then stick it on the carefully applied glue again.

In the most unpleasant cases, in order for the dress to be washed, it is necessary to use a whole arsenal:

  • delicate washing powders;
  • oxygen bleaches and stain removers;
  • safe and proven folk remedies that are in every apartment and are always at hand;
  • sponges and toothbrushes;
  • soap solutions of a strictly defined temperature, because you can wash only with warm water, and rinse with only cool, but in no case ice.

It is also necessary to prepare for the fact that not all stains will be washed off, for example, traces of red wine or coffee. This is especially true for those cases when it did not occur to (or simply did not have time) to wash fresh, and washing became necessary if there was a chance to rent or sell.

Recently, especially in spacious living quarters, it has become a tradition to simply hang a dress in a closet for a long and good memory, but even for this it needs to be put in order - washed or cleaned.

How to wash a wedding dress from stains with your hands - hand washing rules

The necessary means and conditions for hand washing, which allows you to preserve the dress as much as possible - the stages of its implementation and the observance of the necessary precautions.

The ideal option is to wash the same evening, but for obvious reasons, this is extremely rare. But you can’t hesitate with this, because the probability of not removing old stains is high, and you still have to resort to the services of a very expensive dry cleaner.

Rules for hand washing: do not use aggressive powders, use only gentle products, preferably in liquid form.

The main conditions of the process are:

  • simple dirt is soaked with water, and then gently washed with a sponge;
  • more complex or pointy ones are rubbed with a soft toothbrush or clothes brush, if you can be sure that it will not damage the delicate textured fabric;
  • for hard-to-remove stains, use oxygen bleach with a mild effect, or improvised means (for different types - there are different methods);
  • soaking occurs only after the stain is soaked with warm water and a soap solution or stain remover is applied to it, which can withstand the prescribed time in this form;
  • the place of contamination before soaking is carefully washed with a sponge;
  • when cleaning sweat stains under the armpits or washing a hem on which dirt has remained, you can use not only delicate products if they do not have more difficult areas to treat, but also wash the entire dress after soaking;
  • if soaked in warm water with salt, in addition to the main remedy, simple stains will go away faster;
  • white dresses are traditionally rinsed in water with vinegar added to give it a dazzling white hue, and this remedy has been used with success for several generations.

In glamor publications, they often assure that complex stains go away after 15-20 minutes of soaking in soapy water, but this is not true.

Sometimes, to remove a complex stain from grease, wine or coffee, the contaminated area has to be treated several times, but the result is still cleaning in a special institution using professional products.

Therefore, it is worth considering whether it makes sense to mess with complex stains, especially if the dress is made of thin and expensive fabric. This applies to blood stains, coffee and wine stains, or traces of long-wearing lipstick, which most women now wear.

Step-by-step washing is carried out in the following sequence:

  • contaminated spots are soaked with warm water and treated with a folk remedy;
  • after a short soak, rub off with a toothbrush or sponge;
  • the whole dress is immersed for a short time in warm water with soapy water or water, where delicate detergents are added;
  • the outfit is carefully stretched by hand;
  • after washing, it is rinsed with cool water until the detergent is completely removed - as many times as needed;
  • rinsed in acetic solution and hung over the bath so that the water glass gradually.

Do not rub the fabric strongly with your hands, so as not to damage the vulnerable base, especially with hard-to-remove traces. After the dress has dried, you need to carefully examine it for stains, and then, if necessary, iron it with a steamer.

How to wash the bride's dress in the washing machine - tips

Experts categorically do not recommend washing in a wedding dress in an automatic machine, arguing that if the dirt is complex, it is better to dry clean it.

However, no one guarantees that cleaning, even in the most modern and expensive dry cleaning, will be more effective and safer than rubbing at home. More than one wedding, after the festivities, resorted to machine washing, and after that the dress was almost in its original form.

To do this, you need to know certain subtleties of the process and use little tricks:

  1. Soaking and removal is done in exactly the same way as when washing by hand, and with the same stain removers (salt solution - from sweat, ammonia - from wine, peroxide and lemon - from grass).
  2. If there is a zipper on the dress, it is fastened, and the item to be washed is placed in a special laundry bag (for greater fidelity, you can throw laundry balls or simple tennis balls into the machine. These two tools help to avoid deformation and, at the same time, remove dirt more efficiently).
  3. Only gentle detergents and a delicate washing regime without boiling and drying are used. A correctly set sequence and a temperature not higher than 35 will allow you to wash the contaminated wedding dress as productively as possible after pre-soaking, without damaging it or making it unusable. After the machine, the dress is dried in the same way on a trempel over the bath, and finally dries in a place without any special drafts, away from heating appliances.

Wash handmade dress

Nowadays, classic models of wedding dresses are rarely seen - most often the image of a bride is a corset and numerous shining rhinestones.

How to wash a corset with beads and rhinestones at home - a bandage dress is washed only by hand or dry cleaning is used (starch, baby powder). For these purposes, a soapy solution (foam) is used, which is applied to the corset with an exceptionally soft sponge. Photo: svadbavo.ru

In exceptional cases, and only if heavily soiled, you can soak the corset in soapy water and then rinse it. When soaking, the corset should remain in a horizontal position and not touch the side walls of the container. Choose spacious and high basins for soaking.

Dry your dress properly

Knowing how to wash a dress is half the battle, but drying is an equally important procedure.

For example, dresses made of polyester, cotton and satin should not be hung to dry. This will lead to their strong deformation and stretching of the hem. Dry these materials only in a horizontal position, after laying a white cotton towel on the surface. Photo: legkovmeste.ru
  1. Do not wring out. If you apply too much force when spinning, the fabric will stretch and wrinkle.
  2. Do not hang on a rope. The dress is deformed and there will be a trace of the rope or clothespins.
  3. Dry in a ventilated area. For the dress to dry quickly, you need air flow. It is better to dry the outfit in the open air - on the street.
  4. Straighten all wrinkles. If you do not want to carefully iron the material, do not allow creases during drying.
  5. Do not dry in direct sunlight. The fabric may take on a yellowish tint and become stiffer.

Remember

  1. Do not wash in the washing machine. The wedding dress is deformed.
  2. Don't press. The outfit will stretch and wrinkle.
  3. Do not use aggressive bleaches. If stains are difficult to remove, use non-chlorine bleach for delicate fabrics.
  4. Explore tag on the dress. It indicates at what temperature the material can be washed.
  5. Keep dress in the closet. You can hang it next to other things, but only at a distance and in a "breathable" clothing cover.
  6. Dry in a ventilated area or outdoors. Make sure that the dress is not exposed to direct sunlight, the fabric may become stiff or turn yellow.
